I found Devola and Popola's story really interesting and decided to play Nier Gestalt because of it, and then your podcast reminded me to actually buy the game and dust off my PS3. I'm currently playing Nier Gestalt. I tried playing other story games but Nier Automata really ruined the experiences because I know it wouldn't be as emotionally-wretching as Nier Automata. Thanks for your review of the game!

I found 9S to be a whiny bitch throughout the entire 3rd playthrough because I still really liked A2. I never understood his frustration the entire time I played because I didn't understand that 9S has nothing left in his life other than 2B. I thought that he still wanted to save the humans in the Resistance camp. I chose A2 to control on the final fight since I still really liked A2 the entire time. I then chose 9S immediately after to see the different ending, and moved on to the E ending. I teared up in the ending credits when I saw those motivational quotes came up and when I got offered help. I deleted my save data without ever checking out anything else the game offered. I'll probably play it another time to do more than zero side-quests that I did in the first time I played.

The third playthrough, I loved playing as A2. It was fun having a new personality. I was thrown off when A2 seemed to like Pascal almost immediately. There was an option where you killed Pascal after meeting him, and I chose that since it felt like what A2 would have chosen and I assumed Pascal's story was over at this point (it resulted in a game over). When Pascal's children committed suicide, I erased Pascal's memories. I felt bad for Pascal.

The second playthrough, I thought it was just an additional story thing with little tidbits about 9S's side so I just rushed through everything. I was pretty excited for when 9S gets isolated from 2B after that EMP to see what he was doing and started actually paying attention when that happened. When I saw all those new stories, I realized it was actually a continuation of the game and I started taking the game seriously again. Finally, I felt so bad for YorHa about the virus and I liked them all. I tried not to kill any of them. I had assumed they wanted the robots dead just for those in the Resistance camp and that was what they were fighting for -- even if all the humans on the Moon were dead. I really loved how the virus/jamming ruined the UI and pause menu, really added a nice touch to the game.

Here's my experience with Nier Automata: I learned about Nier Automata from randomly clicking a recommended YouTube video that was a Nier Automata OST (which was Weight of the World) and I thought it sounded really good, so I decided to play the game. I knew absolutely nothing about the game going into it other than it was anime-style from the YouTube picture. I didn't do a single side-quest since I found the story so enthralling. I loved the Amusement Park and the Forest Kingdom areas. Again, I avoided every robot I could after going through the Amusement Park and when the robots attacked me in the Forest Kingdom, I just ran past them. I was really confused about the weird robot with that weird face (Emil) and tried searching online who it was and could never find it until a few days ago when I got that far in Nier Gestalt. I thought after the first route that the game was over, and I was a bit upset about it but thought it was a pretty decent game.
